Bernard John Sheppard was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Francis Sheppard and Ellen Church (formerly Sheppard) and the brother of Agnes Mary, Maud Ellen and Edmund Sheppard.
His father Francis was born in 1860 at Welington, Shropshire, he died in 1901 aged 41 yrs, his mothr Ellen was born in 1868 at Shalstone, Buckingham they had 5 children,
Following her husbands death his mother went to re marry William Church C1905
In 1911 they lived at 6 Chippendale Street Lenton Boulevard Nottingham with Ellen's second husband William Church 49 yrs a yarn and silk salesman he is living with his wife Ellen Church 40 yrs and her children, Agnes Mary Sheppard 20 yrs a lace pattern girl, Bernard John Sheppard 14 yrs an office printer, Maud Ellen Sheppard 12 yrs a scholar and Edmund Sheppard 10 yrs ascholar.
Private Bernard John Sheppard enlisted at Nottingham initially he served withthe service number 38264 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later transferred to the 13th battalion Royal Scots Regiment, he was killed in actio on 22nd August 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial Panel 11 to 14 and 162
