Family history

Sydney Erling Morley was born in 1888 the son of the late William Chilvers a coal miner hewer and Mary Elizabeth Morley née Ringwood and the brother of Arthur Linford and Grace Evelyn Morley.

William Chilvers was born in 1857 at Norwich he died in 1903 aged 47 yrs, Mary Elizabeth Ringwood was born in 1854 at King's Lynn, married on 12th November 1884 at Westwich, Norfolk. they had 6 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In 1911 they lived on Vernon Road Kirkby in Ashfield Mary Elizabeth Morley 57 yrs is a widow, she is living with ther children, Sydney Erling 22 yrs a coal miner, Arthur Lingford 20 a colliery yard man and Grace Evelyn 19 yrs an assistant dress maker.

Military history

Private Sydney Erling Morley enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Kirkby in Ashfield, he died on 1st February 1916 of a septic foot wound and is buried at Kingsway Old Cemetery, Kirkby in Ashfield.
