John Parkin was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late William Parkin and Elizabeth Ann Parkin née Wright of 49 Brownlow Road, Mansfield,.
His father William was born in 1860 he died in 1895 aged 35 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Ann Wright was born in 1860 at Ripley, they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they had a further son Joseph born 1884 at Pilsey.
His mother remarried William Orridge a coal miner in 1910 at Mansfield
In the 1911 census the family are living at 49 Brownlow Road, Mansfield, William Orridge 39 yrs a coal miner is living with his new wife Elizabeth Ann Orridge 48 yrs, they are living with 6 children of William Orridge and two sons of Elizabeth Ann Joseph 27 yrs a coal miner and John 15 yrs a pony driver , they have been married for a year.
Private John Parkin enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he initially served with the service number 1629 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 4th August 1917 whilst serving with the 16th battalion Manchester Regiment, and was buried at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France.
