John Langham was born on 13th August 1884 at Kyte Street, Lenton, he was the son of the late Charles Edward a lace hand and Elizabeth Marshall Langham née Kirkman of Cyril Cottages, Kyte Street, Lenton.
His father Charles Edward was born in 1847 at Lenton, he died in 1912 at Nottingham, he was aged 65 yrs his mother Elizabeth Marshall Kirkham, was born in 1850 at Beeston Rylands , Nottingham, they were married on 17th May 1869 at St Peters Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children.
In 1891 they were living at 61a Willoughby Street, Lenton, with their children; William (14), May (9), John (6 b. abt 1885), Arthur (4) and Amy (1). By 1901 they were at 5 Kyte Street Lenton with only May, John, Arthur and Amy registered at home.
In the 1911 census is father Edward Langham 63 yrs married a lace hand is living with Herbert William North 25 yrs an iron turner and his wife May North 29 yrs the family are living at 4 Carlingford Terrace, Hyson Green, Nottingham,
In the same 1911 census his mother and siblings are living at 149 Bridge Street, Gainsborough, his mother Elizabeth 60 yrs married and a house keeper is living with her children, William 34 yrs a licensed victualler, John 26 yrs assisting in his brothers business and Amy 22 yrs assisting in her brother business.
When John enlisted in 1915 he gave his next of kin as his mother Elizabeth Marshall Langham of 5 Cyril Cottages Kyte Street Lenton.
Private John Langham army service record survives. He attested on 26 May 1915, at Nottingham, age 29. living at 5 Cyril Cottages, Kyte Street, Lenton, Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he went to France 18th March 1916 and was killed in action, 25th May 1916, aged 31, whilst serving in the line at Foncquevillers, France.

The following items were returned to Langham's family after his death:' disc, letters handkerchief, testaments, silk handkerchief, silk post cards, medal, boy's badge, picture post card, photos, note book, eyeglasses in cases, false teeth broken in two places'.
