Family history

William Godson was born on 15th March 1892 at Sutton in Ashfield, he was the son of the late John a coal miner and Rosamond White (formerly Godson) née Nowell Boot and the brother of Jonathon Godsonof 24 Stoney Street, Sutton in Ashfield.

His father John was born in 1851 at Mansfield, he died in 1897 aged 46 yrs of age , his mother Rosamond Nowell Boot was born in 1861 they were married on 26th July 1879 at St Marys Church, Sutton in Ashfield, they had 4 children,

In 1911 William lived at 30 Stoney Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire he is 19 yrs of age and is a coal miner driver, he is living with his step father Christopher White 50 yrs and his mother Rosamond White 48 yrs and his brother Johnathan 22 yrs.

He was the husband of Nelly (née Ellis) Godson they were married in 1914 at Mansfield, and the father of Doris M and George E Godson.

Nelly married George Partridge in 1919 and they lived at 44 Dalesforth Street Sutton in Ashfield.

Military history

Private William Godson enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th October 1918 at Regnicourt, France. he is buried Fresnoy-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref A.23)
