Family history

Richard William Flack was born in 1896 at Weeting in Norfolk and was the Son of Turrel Flack a Gamekeeper and Martha Maria Flack, née Malt of Bilborough, Nottingham.
His Father, Turrel Flack was born in 1865 at Lakenheath, Suffolk.
His Mother, Martha Maria Malt was born in 1864 in Weeting, Norfolk.
They were married in St Judes Church, Peckham London on the 17th September 1887.
They went on to have 6 children : James Henry Flack : Born : 1889 : Hatcham : Lillian Flack : Born : 1890 : Peckham, London : George Turrel Flack : Born : 1892 : Weeting, Norfolk : Jane Flack : Born : 1894 : Weeting Norfolk : Richard William Flack : Born : 1896 : Weeting Norfolk : Elsie May Flack : Born : 1901 Blidworth, Nottinghamshire.
According to the 1901 Census the Family have moved into Nottinghamshire and were living at the Gate House, Blidworth Dale, Blidworth, Nottinghamshire which is where their youngest Daughter, Elsie May Flack was born.
By the time of the 1911 Census the Family are living at Bilborough, Nottingham and are shown as Turrel Flack, aged, 46 yrs old, Head, a Game Keeper, Martha Maria Flack, aged, 47 years old, James Henry Flack, Son, aged, 22 years old, George Turrel Flack, Son, aged, 19 years old, a Tobacco Factory blender, William Richard Flack, son, aged, 15 years old, a Milk Delivery Driver for a Farmer and Elsie May Flack, Daughter, aged, 10 years old, a Scholar.
His Brother, James Henry Flack died on the 14th October 1912, aged, 24 years old.
His Mother, Martha Maria Flack, Nee, Malt died on the 21st February 1933, aged, 69 years old.
His Father, Turrel Flack died on the 1st May 1945, aged, 81 years old.
Both of his Parents and his Brother, James Henry Flack are buried in Saint Martin's Churchyard, Bilborough, Nottingham, Driver William Richard Flack is Commemorated on the Family Headstone.

Military history

He is buried in Hill 10 Cemetery, Suvla, Gallipoli, (Turkey).

His Brother : George Turrel Flack also served in the Great War in the Royal Army Medical Corps., he survived.

On the Family Memorial he is Commemorated as William Richard, on his CWGC Grave Marker he is Commeorated as Driver R. W. Flack.

His Obituary was published in the Nottingham Evening Post, dated : 2nd December 1916 : “FLACK. – In loving memory of our dear lad, Dick, who died of wounds received in action in the Dardanelles, December 2nd, 1915, aged 19 years.
Though loved ones knoweth not, his Father knoweth, where he lay, and angels guard the spot. – From his loving Mother, Father, Sisters, and Brothers (in France)."

The inscription on the Strelley War memorial reads : 'William Richard Flack Driver 11th Division RFA Headquarters Staff. Killed in Gallipoli, December 2nd 1915 aged 19.
Buried Anafarta Sagir : Suvla [Suvla] Bay.'

The Inscription on the Family Headstone in Saint Martin's Churchyard, Bilborough, Nottingham reads : "IN LOVING MEMORY OF MARTHA MARIA, WIFE OF TURREL FLACK, DIED FEB. 21ST 1933, AGED 69 YEARS.
ALSO JAMES HENRY, DIED OCT. 14TH 1912, AGED 24 YEARS.
AND WILLIAM RICHARD, KILLED IN ACTION DEC. 2ND 1915 AGED 19 YEARS.
ALSO THE ABOVE NAMED TURREL FLACK DIED MAY 1ST 1945 AGED 81.

UNTIL THE DAY BREAKS.
AND THE SHADOWS FLEE AWAY."
