Samuel Martin was born in 1889 the son of the late Samuel a frame work knitter and Sarah Martin.
In 1911 the family are living at 6 Nottingham Road, Hucknall and are shown as Sarah 57 yrs a widow, she is living with her two children, Annie 27 yrs a shawl stitcher and Samuel 23 yrs a frame work knitter.
Samuel married Lucy Gregory (born 9th September 1891) in 1917 at Mansfield, they had a son John Thomas Gregory born 17th March 1918 they lived at 11 West End Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire.
Following his death his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 20th January 1919.
Private Samuel Martin enlisted at Ilkeston, he was killed in action on 8th July 1918 and is buried at St. Venant-Robecq Road British Cemetery, Robecq
