Albert Mowbray was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Samuel Mowbray a lace dipper and Clara Mowbray née Knipton and the brother of Herbert, Annie, Samuel, Nora and Harry Mowbray.
His father Samuel was born in 1866 at Nottingham, he died in 1907 at Nottingham he was 38 yrs old, his mother Sarah (Clara) Knipton was born in 1868 at Nottingham, they were married in 1888 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 26 Park Street New Lenton Nottingham. Clara 43 yrs a widow is living with her children, Herbert 18 yrs a lace and curtain stock taker, Annie 16 yrs a laundry hand, Albert 13 yrs a scholar, Samuel 10 yrs a scholar, Nora7 yrs a scholar and Harry 5 yrs of age.
Private Albert Mowbray enlisted at Nottingham, he first served in the 2/7th TF Battalion Sherwood Foresters Reiment and then the 2/6th TF battalion and it is possible he moved to 9th battalion when the 2/6th was disbanded on 31 July 1918. The battalion had taken Sebourg early on 4th November 1918 and the villagers plied the men with food and drink. Later that day the men of 'C' and 'D' companies moved towards the ridge overlooking Sebourg and came under severe fire from enemy machine guns. Over fifty men died and thirty five, including Albert are buried in the small battlefield cemetery above Sebourg. Albert is buried in grave A.3., Sebourg British Cemetery.
