Clarence Everard Johnson was born on 7th December 1898 at Ilkeston, he was the son of Herbert a grocer and provisions dealer and Florence Ann Johnson née Taylor and the brother of Herbert Edgar and Miriam Gwendoline Johnson of 78, Dunkirk Road Old Lenton Nottingham.
His father Herbert was born in 1866 at Bromsgrove, his mother Florence Ann Taylor was born in 1868 at Ilkeston, they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district.
In the 1911 census his family are living at 78 Dunkirk Road, Lenton, Herbert 45 yrs is a retail grocer and provisions dealer, he is living with his wife Florence Annie 43 yrs and Sarah Ann Johnson 74 yrs his widowed mother and their children, Clarence Everard 12 yrs a scholar, Herbert Edgar 7 yrs a scholar and Miriam Gwendoline 4 yrs of age.
Second Lieutenant Clarence Everard Johnson enlisted into the Royal Air Force, on 1st April 1918, he was gazetted to second lieutenant in May 1918. He was killed accidentally during a flying accident on 22nd May 1918, he is buried at Lenton (Holy Trinity) churchyard Nottingham Grave Reference: North of churchyard
Headstone inscription: 'In affectionate remembrance of CLARENCE EVERARD JOHNSON, late 2nd Lieut RAF, the beloved son of Herbert and Florence Ann Johnson, accidentally killed May 22nd 1918, aged 19 years.
