Roby Myddleton Gotch
Educated at Cottesmore School, Hove, Rugby School house, and New College, Oxford. He was a solicitor articled to JT Perry of Nottingham.

He was the son of John Alfred Gotch M.A. (Hons.) Oxon. F.S.A., F.R.I.B.A J.P and Annie Gotch née Perry of Weekley Rise, Kettering
His father John Alfred Gotch was born in 1853 at Kettering his mother Annie Perry was born in 1859 at Nottingham, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham, they had a further son Hester Pery Gotch born 1887 Kettering.
In the 1911 census the family are living at Weekly Rise, Kettering, John Alfred 58 yrs is an architect he is living with his wife Annie 52 yrs and their sons Hester Percy 24 yrs no occupation listed and Roby Myddleton 21 yrs a law student.
He was the brother of Hester Perry Gotch and the grandson of Sarah Roby Perry and nephew of John Thorpe Perry and Francis Thorpe Perry. A cousin, Lieutenant Philip Joseph Crook, Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry, was killed or died 7 November 1917 and is buried in Gaza War Cemetery.
Captain Roby Myddleton Gotch joined the Territorial Force of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment in 1911 , he was mobilized in August 1914 in the 7th Battalion and served at home until February 1915 when he went to France. He was promoted temporary captain and adjutant in July 1915, and to captain in July 1916. Gotch was MID January 1st 1916. On July 1st 1916 under an intense barrage he was wounded in the wrist close to the German wire but went to the assistance of a runner who was struggling to lay a telephone wire. He was again wounded this time mortally. His Brigadier General described Gotch as 'one of the finest officers in the brigade'. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Stained glass window by EC Kempe & Co in Nottingham Unitarian Chapel, High Pavement, in memory of Roby Myddleton Gotch and Philip Joseph Crook. A two light window, (LH) St Michael (RH) Sir Galahad and scroll inscribed: ‘Galahad faithful knight. His strength was as the strength of ten because his heart was pure.' Photograph Rachel Farrand
