Family History

Frederick Lane was born on 28th November 1898, he was baptised on 27th April 1899 at St Catherines Church, Cossall, he was the son of George a hosiery machinist and Sarah Jeaves Lane née Husband of 3 Station Street Ilkeston Junction Derbyshire. He was the brother of Harriet, Henry, Arthur, Florence Annie, Nellie, Herbert and Clarence Lane. His father George was born in 1857 at Nottingham, his mother Sarah Jeaves Husband was born in 1865 at Crewe, they were married in 1883 at Nottingham, they had 11 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Station Street, Ilkeston junction, George 54 yrs is a hosiery machinist, he is living with his wife Sarah Jeaves 46 yrs and their children, Harritt 23 yrs a hosiery machinist, Henry 20 yrs a lace machinist, Arthur 17 yrs a threader, Florence Annie 14 yrs a hosiery machinist, Frederick 12 yrs a scholar, Nellie 9 yrs, Herbert 6 yrs and Clarence 4 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Frederick Lane enlisted at Ilkeston, he served with the 6th battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 24th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
