Bertram Riley Wright was baptised on 23rd December 1894 at Holy Trinity Church, Ilkeston, he was the son of George William a conservative club manager and Mary Wright née Riley and the brother of George Gilbert, Evelyn and Gladys Wright of 49 Granby Street, Ilkeston. His father George Wiliam was born in 1864 at Wortley, Yorkshire, his mother Mary Riley was born in 1863 at Awsworth they were married on 11th February 1888 at St Peters Church, Awsworth , they had 5 children. In the 1911 census the family lived at they lived at 27 Springfield Gardens Ilkeston Derbyshire. George William 47 yrs is a conservative club manager, he is living with his wife Mary 48 yrs and their children, George Gilbert, 21 yrs a colliery banksman, Bert 16 yrs a yeast dealer, Evelyn 11 yrs a scholar and Gladys 9 yrs a scholar
Private Bertram Riley Wright enlisted on 21st October 1914 at Ilkeston, giving his age as 20 yrs and his address as 49 Granby Street, Ilkeston, he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he embarked from Southampton on 11th June 1916 landing at Rouen, France the following day. He was killed in action on 4th March 1917 and is buried at Foncquevillers Military Cemetery, France. Plot 2. Row D. Grave 14.
