Edwin George Brewster was born in 1895 at Bilborough, he was baptised on 17th September 1895 at St Martins Church, Bilborough. he was the son of the late John Thomas a woodman and Rosetta Brewster née Davey of Bilborough, Nottingham. His father John Thomas Brewster was born in 1864 at Clipsham, Rutland, he died in 1904 aged 40 yrs, his mother Rosetta Davey was born in 1863 at Carrington, they were married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 6 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at Bilborough, Rose Brewster is 48 yrs and a char woman and widow, she is living with her children (Edwin) George 15 yrs a domestic gardener, William 13 yrs an odd domestic boy, Wilfred 12 yrs, Thomas 8 yrs, Edith 14 yrs a domestic servant and Selina 10 yrs
Gunner Edwin George Brewster enlisted at Hull, he served with the Royal Field Artillery, he was captured by the Germans and died as a prisoner of war on 20th September 1918, he is buried at Chauny Communal Cemetery, British extension, France.
The (indistinct) inscription on the Strelley War Memorial reads, 'Edwin George Brewster. Gunner A/251 Battery RFA Northumbrian Brigade. Died as POW behind German Lines in France, 20 Sep 1918 age 23. Buried Crecy-sur-Serre.'
