Family history

Charles Henry East was born in Peniston, Yorkshire, he was baptised on 9th August 1893 at St John the Baptised Church, Peniston, Yorkshire, he was the son of Arthur George a railway signalman and Sarah Ann East née Mosley of 12 Glapton Road, Meadows, Nottingham.

His father Arthur George East was born in 1867 at Hibalston, Lincolnshire, his mother Sarah Ann Mosley was born in 1865 at Shireoaks, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Worksop registration district, they went on to have a further child, Laurence Arthur born 1898 at Peniston.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 12 Glapton Road, Meadows, Nottingham, Arthur George 44 yrs is a railway signalman, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 46 yrs and their sons, Charles Henry 17 yrs a lace warehouse clerk and Laurence Arthur 13 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Lance Corporal Charles Henry East enlisted at Nottingham , he served with the 12th battalion Royal Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 25th September 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France.
