Family history

Henry Albert Harrison was Baptised 10 April 1892 St Peter's Church Old Radford and living at 32 Mill Street Lenton (both Nottingham), he was the son of Herbert and Selina Harrison and the brother of Herbert, Arthur (killed in action 9/1/1917), Frank, Wallace, Samuel, William and Hilda Harrison.

His father Herbert was born in 1857 at Nottingham, his mother Selina Hopcroft was born in 1863 at Nottingham, they were married in 1882 at Nottingham, they had 11 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Osborne Street, Radford, Herbert 53 yrs is a hosiery machine fitter, he is living with his wife Selina 47 yrs and their children, Henry Albert 19 yrs a tobacco manufacturer, Wllace 18 yrs a needle maker, Samuel Hartop 15 yrs a dropper maker, William 10 yrs a scholar and Hilda 8 yrs old.

Herbert and Selina later moved to Rosedale British Columbia.

Military history

Private Henry Albert Harrison enlisted at Nottingham he Initially served with the 3/7th Sherwood Foresters (regimental number 3793 then transferred 1/7th Bn Sherwood Foresters D Coy, 15 Platoon). Stationed Belton Park, Grantham, before being posted to France. He had a leave pass issued for 22/23 October 1915 to enable him to marry his fiancée, Lucy, but all leave was stopped prior to posting to France and the wedding never took place. he was killed in action on 1st July 1916 the first day of the Battle of the Somme, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

His brother Private Arthur Harrison enlisted on 9th December 1915 at Nottingham giving his age as 30 yrs and 177 days, his address was 21 Hall street, Nottingham he was a warehouseman he was station at Patrington Camp, near Hull (1916) he embarked from Devonport on 15th October 1916 and landed at Basra 22nd November 1916. Posted to the 2nd Bn Leicestershire Regiment n Mesopotamia. Reported missing, presumed killed. on 9th January 1917, he is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq.
