Family history

Benjamin Smith was born on 11th March 1897 at Beeston, the son of John Albert a lace manufacturer and Rose Annie Smith of 'Fernside', Collington Street, Beeston, Nottingham.

John Albert was born in 1873 at Beeston, Rose Annie was born in 1874 at Northampton. they had a further son Harold born 1894 at Beeston.

In 1911 the family were living at Collington Street, Beeston Joh Albert is a lace manufacturer and both his sons are working in their fathers business.

Military history

Private Ben Smith enlisted in Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 9th July 1916 in the No.1 General Hospital, which was located in the small seaside town of Etretat in the Department of Seine-Inferieure, about 26 kilometres north of Le Havre. He is buried in Etratat Churchyard which is situated on the road from the station to the town., France. Plot 2, Row D. Grave 13.
