Family History

James Moore was born in 1881 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Edward Moore a brick maker and the late Elizabeth Moore née Fell of 300 Mansfield Road, Nottingham. His father Edward was born in 1831 at Arnold, he died in 1901 aged 70 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Fell was born in 1835 also at Arnold, she died in 1911 aged 77 yrs, they were married on 27th February 1859 at St Mary’s Church, Arnold, they went on to have 10 children. James married Ada Smith (born 28th September 1891 Lenton) on 21st May 1904 at Lenton Priory Church, they lived at 14 Churchill Street, Old Lenton, Nottingham, they had 3 children, Elsie Millicent born 10th April 1906, Ada Annie born 3rd March 1907 and Jesse born 17th August 1908. In the 1911 census James is living at 14 Churchill Street, Old Lenton, he is 30 yrs of age and is a general labourer, he is living with his wife Ada 29 yrs and their children, Elsie 5 yrs, Ada 4 yrs and Jesse 1 year of age. Commencing 4th April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week.

Military History

Private James Moore enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Old Lenton, he served with the 10th battalion Rifle Brigade, he landed in France on 21st July 1915, he died on 23rd November 1915 of tuberculosis of the larynx and is buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery his name is commemroated on the screen wall
