Family History
It was the 2nd marriage of Henry Carpenter when he married Elizabeth Priestly in 1886 at Lambeth. Henry was a clerical man and civil servant. They lived in Brixton whilst they had their 6 children born over the next 10 years. By 1901 their family was complete and were now resident in Worksop living at 38 Norfolk Street. The 3rd born was Walter James Carpenter in 1890, and by 1911 at age 21, he was working as a grocers assistant living with his family at 1 King Street Worksop.
Military History
Walter enlisted at Sheffield, went to France where he was killed in action on 28 March 1918 and is commemorated on the Arras memorial, in France
