William Edward Adams was born in 1896 at Sandiacre, Derbyshire, he was the son of William a joiner on Park Hall Estate and Sarah Ellen Adams née Priestley of 6 Marcus Street, New Lenton, Nttingham,
His father William was born in 1872 at Waterfall, Staffordshire, his mother Sarah Ellen Priestley was born in 1871 at Sutton Bonnington they were married on 5th August 1894 at Kegworth, Leicestershire, they had 6 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 8 Grove St Mansfield Woodhouse William Adams, 39 yrs was a joiner on Park Hall Estate, he is living with his wife Sarah Ellen 38 yrs and their children, Mary Ellen 16 yrs cotton mill workerand William 15 yrs worked at Pleasley Mills as a card room hand. Gertrude 12 yrs a scholar, Elsie May 5 yrs and Albert 2 yrs of age.
Private William Edward Adams enlisted at Mansfield in October 1914, whilst residing at New Lenton, Nottingham he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, landing in France on 28th June 1915, he was killed in action on 23rd October 1918, in the attack near Fontaine Au Bois, France he is buried at Highland Cemetery Le Cateau Nord France Grave Reference: IV B 2
