William was the son of Thomas and Hannah Easom (née Spencer).
Thomas was born in Basford (1857) and Hannah in Bedworth Warwickshire, in about 1854. They were married on 20 May 1877 in the parish of Basford; both signed the register with their mark.

The children were born in Hucknall Torkard (births registered Basford).
In 1891 Thomas, a coal miner, his wife and their two daughters, Ellen and Hannah, were living on General Street, Bulwell (Hucknall Torkard) and still at General Street in 1891; they now had seven children, Ellen, Hannah, Thomas, Elizabeth, Betsy Ann, Samuel and William. Emily was born the following year.
The family had moved to 39 Prospect Court, Shirebrook, by 1901; of their ten surviving children, eight were in the home on the night of the census: Thomas, Elizabeth, Betsy, Samuel, William, Emma, John and James. The eldest daughters, Ellen and Hannah, have not yet been traced on the 1901 Census.
Thomas's wife, Hannah, died in 1908 (reg. AMJ) aged 50, and he married Annie Jaynes the same year (reg. OND Mansfield).
Thomas, a miner hewer, and Annie (50 b. Stroud Gloucestershire), were living at 149 Station Road, Shirebrook, in 1911. In the home on the night of the census were Thomas's two sons, John (15) a colliery pony driver, and James (10), and Annie's children (Jaynes), Edward a colliery pony driver, Kate (14) and Mabel (13) and her granddaughter, Jessie Freeman (5 b. Gloucester). William, a miner hewer, was living with his married sister, Elizabeth Easter (m. Thomas Easter, 1903 AMJ Mansfield) at 25 Merchant Street, Shirebrook, in 1911.
Annie Easom, died in 1918 (reg. JFM) aged 57 and in 1921 her widower Thomas, an out of work miner (formerly at Shirebrook Colliery), was living at 29 Merchant Street, Shirebrook, in the home of his married daughter Elizabeth Easter and her husband Thomas. Thomas Easom died aged 75 in 1933 (reg.JFM Mansfield).
William married Annie Read (b. 1892, bap. 6 July), the daughter of Thomas and Julia Read, at Shirebrook Holy Trinity in 1911 (reg. JAS Mansfield). They had two children, Maggie (b. 1912) and Wilfred (b. 1914). Annie also had a daughter, Florence D (Easom) in August 1918.
Annie married Alfred Burns in 1919 and they had three daughters, Violet b. 1920, Joyce I b. 1927 and Sheila b. 1930. There may have been another daughter, Gertrude E. b. 1925 (JAS Mansfield/ Read), who died in 1926 (JFM). In 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled the family was living at 65 Devonshire Street, Mansfield: Alfred, a coal hewer, Annie, Violet a tin box machinist, Joyce and Sheila who were school age, and Florenc D. Also in the household were Arthur Read (b. 1906) a coal miner (above ground), Gladys Barlow (b. 1920) a tin box machinist and William Winfield (b. 1866) a retired coal hewer. Alfred died in 1960 and Annie in 1966, both deaths were registered in the Chesterfield registration district.
William Easom enlisted at Shirebrook and served with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby) Regiment.
The 9th (Service) Battalion was formed at Derby in August 1914, part of K1 (Kitchener's New Army). It embarked at Liverpool in early July 1915 for Gallipoli and landed at Suvla Bay on 7 August. The Battalion was evacuated in December 1915 for Imbros, then to Alexandria, Egypt, landing on 3 February 1916. The Battalion served in France from July the same year.
William joined the 9th Battalion at Gallipoli, probably as a replacement for losses. No record has yet been traced, though, of where, or when, William was wounded, but he died at home on 25 September 1916 as a consequence of wounds received in action. He is buried in Shirebrook Cemetery (grave ref. B.C.E. 1505).
He qualified for the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
William's youngest brother, James Easom (b. 1900), served with the Pioneer Corps (5042446 Corporal) and died on 17 June 1940 during the evacuation from St Nazaire, France. (See record on this Roll of Honour)
William's nephew, Frederick Easom (b. 1919), the son of his brother, Thomas and his wife Edith, served with the Royal Engineers (1894164 Sapper) and died on 9 June 1941. (See record on this Roll of Honour).
