Charles Edward Hallam was born in 1899 at East Leake, he was the son of William a cowman and Annie Hallam née Marshall and the brother of Ivy Lettitia, Edith Annie, Ada, Thomas William and Alice May Hallam of 55 Tyne Street, New Lenton, Nottingham.
William was born in 1863 at East Leak and Annie Marshall was born in 1873 at Leicester , they were married in 1893 at East Leake, they went on to have 8 children,
In 1911 the family lived at Clifton Nottinghamshire William Hallam 48 yrs a cowman on a farm is living with his wife Annie 38 yrs and their children, Ivy Letitia 13 yrs a scholar Charle Edward 11 yrs a scholar, Edith Annie 8 yrs a scholar, Ada 6 yrs of age Thomas Wiliam 4 yrs and Alice May 1 year old.
Private Charles Edward Hallam, attested on 3rd October 1917 at Nottingham, giving his age as 18 yrs and 8 months, he was a cowman on a farm. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised on 23rd May 1918 attending his battalions depot at Derby on 25th. Posted to the 8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he landed in France on 29th September 1918 and was admitted to the 72nd General Hospital, France with bronchitis and pneumonia on 11th October 1918 and died on 14th October 1918.
He is buried at Tourgeville Military Cemetery Grave Reference: 4 D 9
