Frederick George Gregory was born on 26th May 1886 at Annesley, he was baptised on 30th June 1886 at All Saints Church, Annesley, he was the son of Frederick Gregory a coal miner hewer and the late Martha Gregory née Bostock of48 Bateman Street, Hyson Green, His father Frederick was born in 1863 at Kimberley, his mother Martha Bostock was born in 1857 at Greasley she died in 1905 she was aged 48 yrs,they were married in 1882 at Nottingham, their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 6 children. His father remarried Ellen in 1907. In the 1911 census the family are living at 48 Bateman Street, Hyson Green, Frederick is 51 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his second wife Ellen 55 yrs and his sons Frederick Gregory 26 yrs a serving soldier and Harry 12 yrs a scholar. Frederick George married Rosemary (born 1892) they lived at 14 Howitt Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. The caption on his photograph in the newspaper (07/12/1914) gives his address as Bateman Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham.
Private Frederick George Gregory enlisted on 30th July 1903 in Lincoln and served with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. Frederick landed in France on 25th August 1914 and was killed in action on 27th October 1914. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial (panel 8).He qualified for the 1914 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
