Harry was born on 3rd May 1887 at Calverton he was baptised on 21st December 1893 at St Wilfrids Church, Calverton he was the son of John James Cooper and Eliza Cooper née Rose,

His father John James Cooper was born in 1853 Whitwick, Leicestershire, hsi mother Eliza Rose was born in 1854 at Ollerton, they were married on 25th May 1874 at St Wilfrids Church, Calverton, they had 6 children.

In the 1911 census his father John James is living at Crookdole Lane, Calverton he is 57 yrs of age a widow and a farm labourer he is living alone.

In the same 1911 census Harry is shown as being 24 born at Calverton and a boarder at Hills Cottage,Church Lane,Pinxton,Derbyshire. His occupation is given as a coal miner-hewer and is livng with a George and Mary Wright.

Military history

Private Harry Cooper enlisted in Mansfield he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, He went to France on 31st August 1915 and was killed in action, 26th September 1916, aged 30, near Le Sars during the Battle of the Somme.

Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
