Family History

James Leonard Mudd was born in 1895 in Sutton, Nottinghamshire, he was the son of John William Mudd a labourer and Eliza Mudd née Fletcher, of 13 Gauntley Street, Middlesborough. His father John Mudd was born in 1872 at Middlesborough, his mother Eliza Fletcher was born in 1866 at Sommercoates, Derbyshire. They were married C1897 and went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 13 Gauntley Street, Middlesborough , John William is 39 yrs and is a labourer, he is living with his wife Eliza 45 yrs and their children, Bertie 9 yrs, Charlie 8 years and (James) Leonard 14 yrs of age.

Military History

Private James Leonard Mudd enlisted at Middlesborough, he served with the 6th battalion Yorkshire Regiment, his medal index card shows he landed in the Balkans on 28th September 1915, he was killed in action on 12th December 1915 in Gallipoli he is buried at Hill 10 Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
