Family history

William North (junior) was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the son of William North (senior) a labourer nd Anne North née Dawson and the brother of Percy, Maud, Annie and Nelly North.

His father William North (senior) was born in 1869 at Grantham , his mother Annie was born in 1871 also at Grantham, they were married 1887 at Granthamc1890, they went on to have 5 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 72 Kirkby Street Meadows Nottingham William North (senior) 42 yrs is a labourer in an iron works, he is living with his wife Annie 40 yrs and their children, Percy 21 yrs a railway labourer, Maud 20 yrs a lace jennier, Annie 19 yrs a net mender, Nelly 12 yrs a scholar and William 15 yrs an errand lad.

Military history

Private William North, enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 1/8th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action after a mine was exploded near their position on 17th April 1916. He is buried in Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont St. Eloi.
