Frank William Tift was born in 1893 at Leicester he was the son only son of the late John Matthew Tift a grain sales man amd Mary Hannah Barsby of Arkwight Street, Nottigham.
His father John Matthew Tift a grain salesman was born in 1871 at Leicester, he died in 1904 at 153 Arkwright Street, Nottingham aged 33 yrs, his mother Mary Hannah Barsby was born in 1871 at Leicester, they were married on 23rd May 1893 at Leicester
Following the death of his father his mother went on to marry Charles Percy Rickard in 1906 at Nottingham, they had a children, Ralph Martin Rickard born in 1907.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 153 Arkwright Street Meadows Nottingham. His stepfather Charles Percy Rickard 25 yrs is a in the civil service he is living with his wife Mary Hannah Rickard 39 yrs a retail tobacconist and her children, Raplh Martin Rickard 3 yrs, and Frank William Tift 17 yrs a compositor
Frank William Tift probate was proven on 18th February 1916 at Nottingham, it shows him as Frank William Tift of 218 Arkwright Street, Nottingham, a Private in HM Army died on 20th November 1915 in France or Belgium, it was admintered (with will) on 18th February to Mary Hannah Rickard wife of Charles Percy Rickard, his effects were £153 and 8 shillings
Private Frank William Tift enlisted at Nottingham on 31st August 1914, he was 20myrs and 329 daysold, he was a clerk, he stated his father was deceased. He served with the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment, landing in France on 29th July 1915, he was killed in action on 20th November 1915, he is buried at Bienvillers Military Cemetery,France
