He was the son of Thomas and Ruth Alford of High Spannia, Kimberley. He was the husband of Florence Ada née Trueman (married 04/04/1912). He was the father of Florence Kathleen, born 10/08/1913 and Marjory, born 24/04/1916. They lived at 1 Murray Street, Mansfield. Florence was left £620s 7d in Henry's will.

Military history

He attested 11/12/1915 under Lord Derby's Scheme and was called up 10/08/1916. Florence was awarded 24s 2d as a pension.
