Henry Ralph Broadhurst (junior) was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry Ralph (senior) a lithograph printer and Annie Broadhurst née Jeffery of 8 Shakespeare Villas Shakespeare Street Nottingham. His father Henry Ralph Broadhurst (senior) was born in 1860 at Nottingham, his mother Annie Jeffery was born in 1874 at Nottingham, they were married on 11th April 1891 at St Mark’s Church, Nottingham, they had 3 children, their further children were Ruth b1893 and Beatrice born 1895. In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Elm Avenue, Nottingham, Henry Ralph (senior) 51 yrs is a lithographic printer, he is living with his wife Annie 37 yrs and their children, Ruth 18 yrs a lace maker, Beatrice 16 yrs a stocking hosier and Ralph 13 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Lance Corporal Henry Ralph Broadhurst enlisted at Nottingham he initially served with the service number 2075 in the South Notts Hussars, later transferring to the Machine Gun Corps, he was killed in action on 21st March 1918 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
