He attended St Cuthbert's College Worksop and Clare College Cambridge in 1898. He became a solicitor who was admitted to the Bar in October 1906 and practised at Knaresborough and York.

Family history

Alwyne Percy Dale was born in York, he was christened at York on 3rd June 1880, he was the son of Robert Percy a solicitor and Jane Horsley Colburn and the brother of Helen Mildred Dale.

His father Robert was born in 1855 at York, he had been a solicitor and town clerk in York his mother Jane Horsley ColburnIn was born in 1856 at Bedale, Yorkshire they were married on 30th July 1879 at Dringhouses, Yorkshire.

In 1901 the family was living at Ashbank York but Alwyne was serving in South Africa.

By 1911 Alwyne was living with his widowed mother and sister at 10 The Avenue Clifton York.

Military history

Alwyne Dale had served during the South African War. He was mobilised in August 1914, as Captain 5th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment (T) and subsequently promoted Major he was killed in action on 1st March 1917 hs buried in Queens Cemetery Becquoy Pas de Calais France Grave Reference: I F 3
