Harry Pilcher Clayton was born on 11th May 1893 at Sheffield, he was the son of Henry John Pilcher Clayton a commercial traveller in thesilver trade and his fist wife Fanny Jane Snell of 104 Brincliffe Edge Road Sheffield.
His father Henry John Pilcher was born in 1870 at Canterbury, Kent, his mother Fanny Jane Snell was born in 1869 at Sheffield, she died in 1906 aged 40 yrs, they were married on 26th December 1892 at St Lukes Church, Sheffield, they had two further children, George Pilcher Clayton b1894 and Doris Pilcher Clayton b1896
In 1901 Fanny Pilcher Clayton was head of the family and living at Chesterfield Road Norton Derbyshire with her 3 children.
Following the death of his first wife Henry went on to marry Margaret Wilson Kirkpatrick born 1861 at Lanark they had 5 children
On the 1911 census the family were living at Southgrove Road, Sheffield, Henry John Clayton 41 yrs is a commercial traveller in the silver trade, he is living with his second wife Margaret Wilson Pilcher Clayton 29 yrs and her children Doris Pilcher Clayton 15 yrs a student and Jean Anderson Pilcher Clayton 1 year of age , also living wiht them is a female srvant 19 yrs of age.
Private Harry Pilcher Clayton enlisted while living in Canada, he served with the 10th battalion Canadian Infantry, he was killed in action on 21st May 1915 and was buried in Browns Road , Military cemetery, Festubert , Pas de Calais, France grave reference V F 16
He is also commemorated on the St Andrews Church Sheffield war memorial.
