Edgar Glasby was born in 1898 at Mattersey, he was the only son of John Glasby a road sweeper and Annie Eliza Milns (both of Mattersey),
His father John was born in 1867 his moher Annie Eliza Milns was born in 1867 both were born in Mattersey the were married at Mattersey in 1895. They had only one child, a son who was born in Mattersey in 1898 and named Edgar.
John was working as a groom in 1901 and by 1911 he was employed as a Rural District Council roadman. The last record before Edgar joined in the war was in 1911 where he was a 14 year old school boy.
Private Edgar Glasby enlited at Retford he served with the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he died of wounds on 2nd May 1918, he is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery. 67.A.28
