Arthur was born in Calverton in 1887,he was the son of Samuel Turton a bricklayers labourer and his wife Mary Turton Wright
His father Samuel was born in 1844 at Calverton he died in 1899 at Nottingham, he was 55 yrs old, his mother Mary was born in 1846 at Calverton she died C1907 aged 61 yrs they were married on 5th June 1865 at St Wilfrids Church Calverton they went on to have 9 childre.
In the 1891 census they are living at Maurfield Lane,Calverton and Arthur is shown as having 6 brothers and sisters.
Arthur married Elizabeth Burton (born 4th June 1887) she died on 5th July 1917, they were married on 7th January 1913 at St Wilfrids Church Calverton, they had 2 children before wedlock, William Burton born 9th February 1911 and Florence Mary born 20th October 1912, and a futher child after their marriage Horace Arthur born 13th January 1915, the family lived on Main Street, Calverton.
Commencing 4th October 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week.
His great granddaughter Elizabeth Chubb has added the following details :- ,Arthur was my great grandfather. We know very little about him. He had three children. His wife Mary (nee Burton) died in childbirth in 1914. His three children were taken into orphanages. My grandmother (Florence Mary) was brought up in Surrey.
He enlisted in Nottingham and served with the Grenadier Guards.He was killled in action France and Flanders and was the husband of the late Elizabeth Turton (nee Burton).The commonwealth war graves web site gives his death of death as between 10th and 13th March 1915 having no known grave his name is is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France
