John Allatt was born in 1898 at Sutton in Ashfield, he was the son of John Charles a bricklayer and Elizabeth Ann Allatt née Keeling of 6 Eastfield side, Sutton in Ashfield.
His father John Charles was born in in 1875 at Thornhill, Yorkshire, his mother Elizabeth Ann Keeling was born in 1878 at Sutton in Ashfield, they were married on 27th December 1897 and went on to have 6 children, he was the brother of Catherine, Frank, Joseph, Annie and Lily Allatt.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 6 Eastfield Side Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire, John Charles 36 yrs is a bricklayer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth Ann 33 yrs and their children, John 13 yrs a builders apprentice, Catherine 11 yrs, Frank 9 yrs, Joseph 7 yrs, Annie 5 yrs and Lilly 2 years of age.
Private John Allatt enlisted at Mansfield he served with the 2/4th battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, he died of wounds on 23rd January 1918 and is buried at Chapelle British Cemetery, Holon, France.
