Family History

John Henry Armstrong was born 1899 at Nottingham son of George a scavenger & Annie Armstrong née Burgess of 3A Main Street, Carlton. His father George was born in 1871 at Carlton, his mother Annie Burgess was born in 1876 at Carlton, they were married on 30th May1897 at St John’s church (Leenside) Nottingham, they went on to have 13 children, sadly 3 died in infancy oe early childhood. On the 1901 census family were living at Southcliffe Road, Carlton. George was a Tramway labourer. On the 1911 census the family had moved to No 3 Main Street, West Carlton, George 40 yrs is now a scavenger, he is living with his wife Annie 35 yrs and their children, J Henry 12 yrs, Ernest 9 yrs, Hilda 6 years and Grace 4 months old.

Military History

Enlisted at Nottingham. Killed in action in France he was eligible for the British & Victory medals. he is commemorated at the Boise de Angles British Cemetery, Crevecoeur sur l'Escaut France.
