Family history

Walter was born in 1892 in Hull he was the son of Herbert a dock labourer and Eliza Ann Bell (nee Wells).of 12 Devonshire Villas, Wellsted Street, Hull

His father Hebert was born in 1866 at South Ferriby, Lincolnshire, his mother Eliza Ann Wells was born in 1869 at Alvington, Lincolnshire, they were married on 18th December 1887 at Hull the couple had 12 children eight of whom survived until 1911 when they lived at 12 Devonshire Villas Wellsted Stree Hulll.

Also at the address were his siblings Charles, William, Eliza Anne, Horace, Ernest, Eva, and Francis.

Walter married Lily Bromby (born 2nd April 1888) at St Augustines Church Newland Hull in 1913, and they had a son Dennis Walter Bell born 28th February 1914, they lived at 23 Ash Grove, Ash Street, Hull.

Commencing 24th September 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Walter Bell enlisted in Hull, he served with the East Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 26th February 1917 and is buried in Assevillers New British Cemetery, Somme, France Grave Reference: VIII C 3
