Sydney Wildsmith was the son of Sidney Wildsmith and Harriett Bowler who married at Derby in 1891. Their children included: Ada (b.1892), Edith (b.1893), Sydney (b.1895), Elsie (b.1897), Gladys (b.1907) and Harry (b.1909). The Wildsmith family lived at: 2 Chatsworth Grove, St Ann’s [C.1891]; 28 Napoleon Square, Percy Street, Old Basford [C.1901]; 10 Shipstone Street, Radford Road, New Basford [C.1911]. In 1910 Sidney Wildsmith senior, who worked as a general labourer, died at Nottingham, aged 46. The 1911 census has his widow now returning to work as a cigar maker, an occupation she undertook at the time they were first married. The post-war address for Harriett Wildsmith, given in the CWGC records, was 252 Wordsworth Road, Radford. What subsequently happened to her is unclear.
He enlisted at Nottingham; killed in action; buried in the Unicorn Cemetery, Vendhuile, Aisne, France.
