Levi Southall was born in 1886 at Lower Gornall, Dudley he was the son of Joseph Southall a bricklayer and Emily Cook of 30 Paul Street, Radford.
His father Joseph was born in 1862 and his mother Emiy Cook was born in 1861 both were born in Dudley they were married in the Stourbridge registration district in 1880 they had 4 children, Florence (b.1883), Levi (b.1886), Thomas Ernest (b.1892), Job (b.1894) Sarah (b.1888), Jemima (b.1890) and William (b.1899). All but William were born in the Dudley area.
The Southall family lived at: 42 Summer Lane, Sedgley, Staffordshire [C.1891]; 38 Dorset Street, Radford [C.1901]; 30 St Paul’s Street, Radford [C.1911].
Joseph Southall, who worked as a bricklayer, died at Nottingham in 1945, aged 85. His wife, Emily had predeceased him, dying at Nottingham in 1918, aged 58.
Private Levi Southall enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died from his wounds on 12th February 1916 he is buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France.
