Family history

Owen Smith was born in 1890 at Nottingham, he was the son of Francis Henry Ambrose Smith a house painter and Annie Smith née Meakin and the brother of Annie, Edward and Mabel Smith of 34 Barker Street, Nottingham,

His father Francis Henry was born in 1865 at Nottingham, his mother Annie Meakin was born in 1868 they were married on 10th November 1886 at St Mathias Church, Sneinton, they went on to have 6 children, sadly 1 was to die inn infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 3 King George Street, Woolpack Lane Nottingham. Francis 46 yrs is a house painter he is living with his wfe Annie 43 yrs and their children, Owen 21 yrs a builders labourer, Annie 15 yrs a lace hand, Edward 13 yrs and Mabel 9 years of age.

Francis and Annie later lived at 6 Paradise Place Barker Gate Nottingham.

Military history

Corporal Owen Smith enlisted at Nottingham, he served wit the 2nd battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 17th December 1916 he is buried at St Sever Cemetery extension Rouen, France
