William Henry Woottton was born in 1895 at Peckham, London he was the son of William Wootton,a stoker and Annie Wootton née Rudd of 6 Westville Street, Peas Hill Road, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1868 in Northamptonshire and working as a stoker.his mother Annie Rudd was born in 1875 at Middlesborough, they were married on 8th July 1894 at St Thomas Church, Finsbury Park, London. they had 10 children, William Henry born 1895 Peckham, Stanley born 1897 Peckham, James born 1898 Nottingham, Stella born 1900 London, Frederick born 1905 Nottingham, John born 1902 Nunhead Green London
Bernard born 1906 at Nottingham and Linda, born in 1909 in Nottingham.

The family lived at 77 Marple Street, off Woodborough Road, Nottingham, in the 1911 census they are shown as William 43 yrs a stoker, he is living with his wife Annie 36 yrs and their 8 children including William Henry 16 yrs and Bernard 5 yrs of age.

Military history

Pte. Wootton volunteered for service and enlisted at Warwick. Following training the Yeomanry were sent to Egypt, arriving on 12/09/1915. He died on 20/02/1918 and was buried at the Cairo War memorial Cemetery.

Extra information

His brother Bernard Wootton served in the Royal Navy during the 2nd world war he died on 24th November 19141 on HMS Fox and is buried at Lerwick Cemetery.
