Family history

Known as Ted, his full name was Edward Randolph Mills. However this was recorded as Ronald, probably on enlistment and then used on subsequent records and memorials.

He was the son of Edward Mills, a plasterer and Martha Rose Minnie Mills née Simpson of 9 Meadow Lane Nottingham, his father Edward was born in 1876 in Nottingham, working as a plasterer. His mother Martha Rose Minnie Simpson was born in 1873 at Rotherham Yorkshire.she died in 1916 aged 43 yrs, they were married in 1897 at Nottingham, they went on to have 6 children,

In the 1911 census the family are living at 9 Meadow Lane, Nottingham, Edward 34 yrs is a plasterer, he is living with his wife Minnie 38 yrs and their children, Edward 11 yrs a scholar, William 10 yrs of age, Lily 7 yrs, Elsie 4 yrs, Minnette 4 yrs and Irene 1 year old.

Military history

Private Edward Mills was called up in Spring of 1918 at Nottingham aged 19, he formerly served with Northumberland Fusiliers ( 65979). He was killed on 11th August 1918 near Beaufort-en-Santerre by machine gun fire as he attacked nearby woods having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France.
