Family history

Percy Linfoot was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Francis a saddler and harness maker and Sarah Ann Linfoot née Taylor of 1 Grimsby Terrace, Pym Strret, Nottingham.

His father Francis was born in 1851 at Nottingham he died in 1905 aged 56 yrs, his mother Sarah Ann Taylor was born in 1852 in Nottingham, working as a hosiery mender.they were married in 1875 at Nottingham and had 2 other sons, Henry John born 1882 and John was born in 1886

In the 1911 census his widowed mother Sarah Ann is living at 1 Grimsby Terrace, Pym Street, Nottingham she is 61 yrs of age and is a hosiery mender, she is living with her son Percy 27 yrs a yard labourer and her grandson Henry 9 yrs of age.

Percy Linfoot married Ethel Gertrude Brewin (born 19th December 1887 ) in October 1914 at Nottingham and they lived at 56 Litchfield Road, Sneinton, Nottingham they had a daughter Elsie Gertrude born 3rd February 1916.

Commencing 6th May 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Gunner Percy Linfoot was called up for service at Nottingham and following training he was drafted to France. He was a member of 'B' Battery, 290th Brigade, R.F.A. and fought in the Third Battle of Ypres just north of the town, where he was killed in action on 4th February 1917. He was buried at Buffs Road Cemetery.
