Harold Hunt was born in 1890 at Nottingham he was the son of George Hurt, born in 1868 at Nottingham, worked as a lace maker. his mother Mary Ann, born in 1872 in Nottingham.
Sisters: Mary, born in 1899 at Nottingham and Lottie.born in January 1901 also in Nottingham.
The family lived at No Man's Yard, Nottingham before moving to 19 Beaumont Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.
Private Harold Hurt enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he embarked with battalion on 8th September 1914. In October 1914 the battalion was at the village of Ennetieres in a sharp salient. The position was too exposed and too extended. They were heavily shelled and caught in enfilade fire, but they were refused permission to retire. The battalion was again heavily attacked and eventually overrun. There were over 700 casualties, with 484 men captured. Pte. Hurt was killed in action on 20th October 1914, but his body was never recovered. However, his name was commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
