Family history

John Hart was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of John Hart a master bricklayer , and the late Matilda Bennett of 2 Pym Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham.

His father John was born in 1856 at Basford, Nottingham and working as a bricklayer his mother Matilda Bennett was born in 1856 in Nottingham she died in 1900 aged 45 yrs, they were married on 3rd October 1874 at All Saints Church, Nottingham they had 9 children, his brother: Albert, born in 1891. Sisters: Kate, born in 1875 and working as a lace mender, Lilly, born in 1879, Florence, born in 1884, Sissy, born in 1886 and Nelly, born in 1889.

His father remarried in 1907 at Nottingham to Emma Dutton.

In the 1911 census his family were living at 32 Windsor Street, Nottingham,John 55 yrs is a master bricklayer, he is living with his second wife Emma 60 yrs and their children, Albert 20 yrs a leather dresser and Rose 17 yrs a lace jennier

The family lived at 17 Trafalgar Terrace, Radford, Nottingham, before moving to 2 Pym Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham.

His pension record card shows, his dependent was Ada Williamson of 9 Beverley Terrace, Radal Street Hyson Green and their illegitimate child Daisy May Williamson born 17th May 1905 at Nottingham.

Military history

Private John Hart volunteered for service at Nottingham on 24th August 1914, he was 33 yrs and 217 days old, he was a gas fitter, and following training he was drafted to France. He served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment landing in France on 11th November 1914.

On 5th June 1915, the battalion took up trenches in front of Potijze, which were very shallow. The battalion sustained casualties on the next day, including Private Hart who was killed in action he was buried at Hop Store Cemetery.
