Albert Gillett was born in 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late William Gillett a green grocer and Louise Gilbert née Meakin of St Ann's, Nottingham.

His father William Gillett, born in 1861 in Nottingham, working as a green grocer. his mother: Louisa Meakin was born in 1866 in Nottingham they were married C1890 and had 10 children, 5 of whom died in infancy or early childhood.

Brothers: Percy, born in 1887, working as a letterpress printer, Edward, born in 1889, working as a lace hand, Harry, born in 1891 and Harold, born in 1902. Sisters: Annie, born in 1894 and working as a blouse hand and Lily, born in 1898.

The family lived at 104 Flewitt Street, Nottingham before moving to 2 Sanderson Street, Pym Street, Nottingham.

Military history

Gunner Albert Gillett enlisted at Nottingham he arrived in France on August 16, 1914 with 25th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. In 1917 he took part in the Third Battle of Ypres and was seriously wounded. He was taken to a casualty clearing station, but died on 29/10/1917. He was buried at Duhallow A.DS. Cemetery and was later awarded the 1914 Star and clasp, the British War Medal ad the Victory Medal.
