Thomas Edwin Barlow was born on 10th November 1881 in Nottingham and worked as a dropper maker. he was the son of the late Arthur Barlow a joiner and Lucy Richards .

His father Arthur was born in 1845 at Arnold, he died in 1884 aged 39 yrs his mother Lucy Richards was born in 1854 at Alford, Shropshire, they were married in 1876 at Nottingham, they had 3 further children, Clara born 1870, Mary b1878 and Isaiah born 1880.

Thomas Edwin married Eliza Carrington born on 12th Septeber 1882, in Nottingham they were married on 26th February 1901 at Nottingham they had eight children, though three had died in infancy. Phoebe, born in 1903, Lucy Louisa born 14thJanuary 1904, Mary Jane born in 20th March 1906, Thomas, born in 1910 and Edwin Arthur born 2nd March 1910 John William born 10th August 1914 and Gertrude Eliza born 10th November 1918 . The family lived at 1 Rushton Terrace, Twells Street, Nottingham.

Commencing 12th May 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 37 shillings and 11 pence a week.

Military history

Private Thomas Edwin Barlow volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France, arriving on 25/06/1915. He served with the 7th Bn Sherwood Foresters, but was later transferred to 204th Area Employment Company, Labour Corps. He was taken to hospital at Etretat where he died on November 1, 1918 due to the effects of being gassed and was buried at Etretat Churchyard Extension.
