Sydney Amphlett Morris was born in 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry Amphlett Morris a commercial traveller and Francis Ward Morris née Neep of The Stores, Upper Caldecote, Biggleswade.
His father Henry Amphlett Morris was born in 1864 at Bilston, Staffordshire his mother Frances Ward Neep was born in 1867 at Nottingham, they were married on 14th February 1888 at St Mary’s Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 4 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 114 Nottingham Road, Nottingham, Henry 47 yrs is a commercial traveller, he is living with his wife Frances Ward 44 yrs and their children, Bertram 19 yrs an estate agent and Sydney 18 yrs, unemployed.
Rifleman Sydney Morris enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 12th battalion King’s Royal Rifles, he landed in France on 23rd July 1915, he was killed in action on 13th February 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, France.
