Family history

Lewis Blanden was born in 1896 at Bradeston Norfolk, he was the son of Arthur a railway station master and Emma Blanden née Lewis and the brother of May, Olive, Frank and Ivy Blanden of 70, Mill Hill Rd., Norwich.

His father Arthur Blanden was born in 1864 at Woodbridge, Suffolk, his mother Emma Lewis was born in 1863 at Reepham, Norfolk, they were married on 25th August 1892 at Thorpe Hamlet, Norfolk, they went on to have 5 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 3 Ash Villas Herbert Road,Sherwood Nottingham Arhtur 47 yrs is a railway station master, he is living with hiswife Emma 48 yrs and their children, Mary 17 yrs a post office worker, Lewis 15 yrs a scholar, Olive 12 yrs a scholar, Frank 10 yrs a scholar and Ivy 7 yrs of age.

Military history

Rifleman Lewis Blanden enlisted at London whilst residing at Marylebone, he served with the 1/9th Bn (Queen Victoria's Rifles) he landed in France on 4th November 1914. He was killd in action on 19th December 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial Panel and face 9C
