Harry Smith was born on 14th September 1888 he was baptised on 14th September 189288 at St Johns Church, Bradford, he was the son of John William a factory book keeper and Mary Smith née Overend of 54, Sterling St., Manchester Rd., Bradford, Yorks and later 4 Belloe Streeet, Bradford.
His father John William was born in 1865 at Clayton, Bradford, his mother Mary Agnes Overend was also born in 1865 at Shipley Yorkshire, they were married on 5th September 1891 at Bradford, they had further children, George Henry b1186, Mary Elizabeth b1891 and Edgar Bertram b1896.
In the 1911 census his family are living at 90 Shipley Fields Road, Bradford, John William 45 yrs is a factory book keeper he is living with his wife Mary 45 yrs and their son Edgar Bertram Smith 15 yrs a scholar. children George Henry
Private Harry Smith enlisted at Halifax whilst residing at Bradford, he served with the West Riding Regiment, he died of wounds at Nottingham and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery.
His brother Private 6364 George Henry Smith served with the 1st battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 15th November 1914, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
As he has no connection with Nottinghamshire he is NOT commemorated on this roll of honour.
