Nottinghamshire City and County Memorial

This memorial is at the entrance to the church of St Mary the Virgin, High Pavement. It was consecrated in 1921 at the same time as the parish memorial the tablets of which are on the reverse of the gate pillars. The memorial comprises total numbers of dead from each village or district which were compiled mainly from information provided by Anglican clergy in the city and county. These statistics were the starting point for the Nottinghamshire Great War Roll of Honour project. The lists were compiled in the war's immediate aftermath. In some cases they are accurate but were not cross referenced at the time so the numbers of men who appeared on more than one, in some cases several, memorials were not revealed. The City and County and parish memorials were renovated in abt. 2007 and in 2017.
