Nottingham (Basford) - Basford Social Club

Basford Social Club, Eland Street, Basford, Nottingham NG7 7DY. The memorial with 16 names was known to have been stored in the building's cellar. The social club closed in 2009 and the building later demolished (www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/news/City-s-oldest-working-men-s-club-forced-close/article-628864-detail/article.html). However, two Rolls of Honour with the names of social club members who served in both World Wars (died + served and returned) were recovered, restored and later transferred to St Mary the Virgin and All Souls, Bulwell, Nottingham. (Report and photograph, Nottingham Evening Post, 'Bygones', 1 December 2010) The names on the Great War ROH which correspond to the names on the memorial are: A Arme, J Bellamy, E Booth, E Bramley, H Clarke, W Davies, E Gascoigne, A Matthews, J Mitchell, J Morley, J Sanders and P Williams Two other possible names are J (sic) Bramley and W Hirst (?Hurst). E Atter and F Atter do not appear on the Roll of Honour
